Cheryl Kiviat, C-IAYT
As a child of an athlete turned teacher of physical education and health & hygiene, Cheryl says her dad was her first guru. She observed a man of discipline and strength, compassion and kindness, and a true listener, one who held space while asking the hard questions at the right time. While working on Madison Ave in her twenties, she found her next teacher and mentor, renowned NYC yoga guru and chi master, Allan Bateman. She studied with Allan for many years and was trained by him as a yoga teacher/yoga therapist and preventative and rehabilitative therapist. Using yoga techniques and the Bradley Method of Natural Childbirth, she’s assisted many women in pregnancy, labor and delivery as a doula. Cheryl’s yoga therapy practice is an individualized approach whether working privately or in small group classes. Her method allows her to work with various populations and traumaclients alike to meet her students needs and goals with guidance and encouragement. Student and teacher create an initial practice to build on while the student develops more awareness and control of strength and flexibility. The desire is to find balance ~ a sound mind in a sound body. During the pandemic, Cheryl saw the need to incorporate more mindfulness techniques to her students practice and to be available for council. She continues to work both on zoom and in person.Cheryl teaches from her home studio in Ringwood NJ and at Stone Wave Yoga inGardiner, NY. Her dedicated felines, Paco & Jerry, assist her in zoom sessions. Her tennis and card playing mother, at 88, continues to inspire and guide her with wisdom and good humor, her husband David continues to keep her on her toes and her adult children try their best to keep her contemporary.
